Are the important updates on the United Alarm Home Page something to check
periodically?
Yes, we keep up on the changes in the industry and security in our service
area and will use this information to update our site. Checking the site is a great way to
communicate changes and trends.
Why and how often should I get my alarm system tested and inspected?
Annual test and inspections of your system can find issues before an
incident happens. These test and inspections are billable. However, service
agreements are available to cover some or all of the costs involved. Contact
your representative to discuss the options.
Why should I have a Long Range Radio System added to my alarm system?
Long range radio adds a communication link to our central station. So, even
if the phone lines are down, your system will get alarm signals to us in
times of trouble at your home or business. Long range radio is also a good
option when you have your phone service through the internet or cable
operator. Contact your representative to discuss the option.
How does VOIP affect my alarm?
Many people have made the move to cable and internet providers for their
telephone service as well. This has caused changes to the alarm industry.
Communication with your alarm system to our central station is crucial.
Power, cable and internet outages also cause phones to be out of service.
That is a concern to us all. Please take a minute to review our policy on
“VOIP” . One tool to remedy these potential
outages is to add Long Range Radio to your alarm system .
What will an alarm system cost me?
Each and every system is customized to give you the protection your
situation deserves. One of our professional sales staff will be happy to
meet with you, at no cost to you, to assess the level of protection best
suited for your needs. All your questions will be answered and a package
designed specifically for your system. All of your options will be discussed
and a written proposal provided.
Do I need to register my alarm with the town I live in?
Many towns have instituted a system to register alarm systems. Some charge
for the registration while others do not. Contact your town hall or police
department to find out the specifics for your town.
Will I get false alarms?
Reliability is critical and false alarms are a nuisance to us all. We do our best to eliminate false
alarms. We select the most reliable equipment for your system. When the alarm is tripped, we usually are
instructed to contact the premises. That call eliminates the majority of the
false alarms so authorities are not dispatched.
Do I get charged for false alarms?
Many towns have passed ordinances that allow them to charge for false
alarms. Most, if they have charged, do so after a number of false alarms.
Contact your town hall or police department to find out their policy.
How fast will the alarm response be?
When your alarm goes off, time is important. The phone call from our Central
Station to your home or business is usually with 30 seconds. With no answer
or an incorrect code word, we immediately contact authorities to dispatch
police or fire (Commercial fire system alarms are called immediately to the
local fire department first) department. We can not guarantee how long it
will take for the police or fire departments to arrive.
